Its A Big Blue Watery Road

I'm On A Boat! Check out this video from The Lonely Island, the creators of such great SNL shorts like Dick in a Box. Nothing says,BALLIN', like being on a boat like this and nothing spells a hit song like a couple bars from TPain. I F-ed The Merrrmaaaiiddd!

Kid Cudi on the whhhat? Thanks Z104

As I was about to hit up the Shmack Fashion Show at the A:loft last night, I was treated to something I never expected, thanks to Z104! Kid Cudi is finally gettin some air play in VA, thanks to jocks like Anna over at Z104. When I was booking acts in college, my girl DJ Roxy outta NYC kept telling me that I needed to get this dude in for a quick set at my college before he blew up. I was all about the idea, but I didn't think Cudi's killer talent would be appreciated by the Central PA peeps. Even though he never made the journey to PA, I kept following his story. I'm def stoked that he is now starting to get accepted into the mainstream, props to stations like Z104. At the fashion show I was chillin with Excel for a quick minute and he was tellin me that Cudi is bangin in all the LA clubs. I just hope his song, Day N Night has some staying power! If LA is playin all his stuff I'm sure VA clubs will come around, even if it's not until summer.

Still hyped off the Red Bull from last night,
Ryan

Keep It Simple Stupid is the name of game when it comes to TinyChat. You see, for the people that are still in the Stone Age or use the "to busy" excuse when it comes to chatting, here is your alternative. TinyChat generates your own unique "webpage" that you can send to people via email or however and then communicate with them back and forth like a messaging service. Also good for those peolpe that have chat abilities blocked by "the man" the ability to do so. No login, account, or anything else needed to enjoy. Plain and to the point. I Like It. Give it a chat.

Friday I'm In Love

I am usually not a fan of these cliche shirts but this one does it for me. Maybe because I used to have the cassette tape of The Cure and I would rewind and play this song over and over or maybe just because its FRIDAY, this shirt gets some love. Either way Joy Lavera has this and a couple other designs over at Threadless.

WITNESS: DJ Excel

Here's the deal...I've been fortunate to work with/meet many movers and shakers in the music industry. I will be hitting up these folks to learn a little more about their lifestyle. I thought I would start this series off with one of most down to earth dudes out there: DJ Excel. He was kind enough to spin at one of my 'Blend' parties with Shmack Clothing. One of the best DJs out there hits you with a little insight below. Enjoy! -Ryan

1. biggest impulsive buy?
Hmm, I slowed down a lot on impulsive buying but I can remember 3 in the past 2 years.
1. Bathing ape aviator bomber jacket $900
2. 2007 Infiniti FX 35 $50,000
3. Rolex GMT 2 w. Porcelin dial $7000
Sometimes there's something u want so bad but u know u shuldnt buy it & u just have to say fuck it. Its bitten me in my ass b4 so I try to contain myself. But I have a trigger finger w $ so sometimes I. shoot 1st & worry about paying rent later!!!

2. you'll be calling the west coast home soon. so...east or west ladies? who's winning in your book?
I'm actually here now. I'm on set @ this honda commcercial my homies gomez warren & mickey factz r doin. Typing on my bb. I got here 2days ago & been on the move ever since....

Ladies are a tuff one. LA has the eye candy, but most of wat I seen are just that, they have 0 personality. Now I'm sure there's better ones here but I haven't seen them yet. I've also just been in the clubs, so u know what u get wen ur in that enviorment.
Philly is sketchy. We're at a short for good looking girls, but I've been fortunate to have my fair share back home.
As of now, 3 days in LA, I have to go wit my home team, philly chicks. The lack of personality takes away from the big titty, video chicks appeal.

3. what song seems to be really taken off in the club these days?
Hip hop - Ron Browz. He's on fire rite now.
I'm jumpin out the window with this one!!!
House music - sad to say, kid cudi. Don't get me wrong I love the song, but these fools are a year & some months late. We've been played that track out & now its catching on & is on the radio & in the clubs everywhere.
Bmore club - dj class' I'm the shit. Its amazing to see bmore club being accepted in a global scale. Again, we been runnin wit it. So its like waiting for the tortoise @ the finish line wen u been here for years. But hey, welcome to the celebration! We're all still jammin!

4. i know you rock the Nikes. What's your fav. shoe of all time?
I've been asked this before & my answer changes everytime...
I'm a nike head, I wear chains that excite the feds...
Recently I've been on my air max kick again. So I been rocking a lot of my 1's/90's/95's/97's

5. if you could throw down for anyone... who's party would you like to spin for?

Barack Obama - @ the white house.

Not only is he the toting Kim Kardashian on his arm, Reggie Bush is now the 1st NFL athlete to land an endorsement deal with Red Bull. Red Bull is expanding their foot print beyond the action sports realm and into the world of mainstream sports. STELLAR!
Dear Red Bull,
I stop at my favorite convenience store every morning on my way to work and pick up a can of this great product, as well play on a highly competitive softball team. What are my chances of being the 1st average male to be endorsed by Red Bull?

My new fav. band, The Knux, by way of New Orleans is def starting to be picked up by the mainstream. Lately, they have been hitting the late night tv circuit along with their new video Bang, Bang showing up on MTV. Crash The Superbowl

Were you more interested in the commercials or the actual game? The were both very intriguing, but the game wins this time. Their were some good commercials but overall I am pretty disappointed. Doritos put together a competition to design a commercial and if that commercial ran you won $25,000 and if it was awarded the number one commercial by USA Ad Meter you won another $1 million! Well congrats go out to Dave and Joe Herbert, you won't have to wait on that unemployment check this month! But next time be more creative, you took my favorite commercial that I laugh at every time it comes on and did your own thing.
Exibit A. Southwest Airlines

Video Game - Southwest Airlines Commercial

CLASSIC!!!!! You are not CREATIVE!! LAME I TELL YOU, LAME! NOT EVEN FUNNY! You owe that ad agency at least the free Doritos! C'MON.

dirty little secret

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon PostSecret years ago. PostSecret, in my opinion, is one of the coolest ideas I've seen on the net. PostSecret is an ongoing community mail art project, created by Frank Warren, in which people mail their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcards. Frank has been able to keep the blog ad. free and has had the opportunity to have his books on the shelves of Border's and Barnes and Noble. Below are two the post cards from this past week. -Ryan

WITNESS CULTURE WORK OUT PLAN

So you made the New Years resolution to work out more in 09, just like the millions of others in the world, and just like the millions of others you have probably fallen off the wagon already! Here is a great alternative to hitting the gym.
Go to your favorite music download site and grab the new Peter Bjorn and John track, Nothing To Worry About. Then follow that up with a track from MGMT called "Kids", sprinkle in Innerpartysystem, then top it off with the latest from Girl Talk.
Slap them bad boys in your Ipod and you are sure to be snapping your fingers, shuffling your feet, shaking your hips, and possibly doing the hokie-pokie, all in the name of a good workout!
Results may very depending on coordination!

ALL IN THE WRIST

Nooka, a design company out of NYC is getting a lot of wrist action from mainstream artists, Lil' Wayne, Fall Out Boy and Mr. West. The creative minds behind these timepieces are redefining how we view time. Still a fairly young brand, Nooka has been expanding their reach as they collaborate with major players Toyota, Hellz Bellz and Kid Robert. Commonwealth and Up Against the Wall make it easy for you to pick one up before your next party. -Ryan

EYES WIDE OPEN

So I am just getting home from a trip to Shmack Clothing headquarters. I met up with Todd Askins, the mastermind behind all things Shmack, to pick up a couple items from their Spring 1 line. While there I had the chance to see a quick photo session for their line of accessories they are releasing this spring. With duffle bags, camera/phone cases, watches, and hats they definitely are not holding things back in these tough times. Bringing the heat for sure! So be on the look out in the next couple days as they drop to the public.
